People will gobble down the spoon fed media narrative very happily without critical thought.

TokenBoomer OP ,

Yes, it’s disappointing when we have John Bolton on camera admitting to a coup.

Gsus4 ,
@Gsus4@mander.xyz avatar

Once the US tries to coup you once, every military dictatorship is allowed, so long as it blames the US for everything. Got it.

TokenBoomer OP ,

If the US doesn’t want to be blamed for coups, maybe they should stop trying to topple sovereign governments.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

The U.S. has caused coups, therefore all coups are caused by the U.S. is faulty logic.

That really is not a rebuttal to your faulty logic.

So now you decided that the venezuelan population should take one for your “team”. All that was wrong with Pinochet was that he didn’t sing the international socialist, everything else was cool, wasn’t it?

TokenBoomer OP ,

No, it was not:

During the ensuing 17-year rule of Gen.** **Augusto Pinochet, more than 3,000 people would be disappeared or killed and some 38,000 would become political prisoners — most of them victims of torture.

you missed the point, but let Maduro rule 6 more years and keep the tally. es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foro_Penal if you care

TokenBoomer OP ,

The U.S. doesn’t care about Venezuelan citizens, it cares about oil.

Gsus4 ,
@Gsus4@mander.xyz avatar

That’s ok, Venezuelan citizens don’t care about you either.

TokenBoomer OP ,

They shouldn’t, but they should care about foreign interference with their country.

It would be great if people spoke to Venezuelans about this instead of playing the “US bad” tape. Every opposition party is against this, not just the neoliberals: …com.do/…/partido-comunista-de-venezuela-la-democ…

Totally, I have read what they have to say. I’ve listen to podcasts interviewing Venezuelans. Thanks

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Hey everyone, this person knows what’s going on. They’ve listened to podcasts.

apfelwoiSchoppen ,

Can’t say I’m proud of it.

Eldritch ,

Yes I know our government in the United States has plenty of blood on its hands especially in South america. And as a socialist myself I automatically have sympathy for the Socialists. However I’m not ideologically anything per se at least not anything that’s incompatible with democracy. Something Maduro seems highly incompatible with.

I really wish we’d stay out of it especially announcing anyone as the winner. But by the same token I still want the receipts public and the will of the people represented even if it’s the far right party that won. Because otherwise you go down the path of leninism and all the damage they’ve done.

Gsus4 ,
@Gsus4@mander.xyz avatar

I watched the full OEA meeting and there were lots of countries besides the US that had strong words against Maduro’s stunts, particularly countries that used to be dictatorships (some backed by the US) who a democratic Venezuela at the time strongly criticized and cut ties with until they returned to democracy again and these countries now feel like they owe Venezuela the same support at this time. It was very moving. Anybody out there who thinks this is just about the US knows nothing about Latin America’s dark history with dictators.

Eldritch ,

Yep and that is absolutely fine. I just think that the United States isn’t going to make anything clearer or Easier by stepping in. Giving official proclamations and statements. Due to our history with the region.

Gsus4 , (edited )
@Gsus4@mander.xyz avatar

Yes, I agree. No troops, support whatever the Latin American states say, they know what they’re doing. Coming out swinging doesn’t help.

Siegfried ,

Que pedazo de mierda que sos

TokenBoomer OP ,

great argument.

Siegfried ,

Says the apologist siding with a narc-dictator.

And it’s not an argument, it’s a description of who you are.
