Most of the time, you probably want to register your car in your state of residency, but if you scroll down just a tiny bit there are a whole list of states that allow you to register a car as a non-resident. All states respect cars registered in the other states, so if the vehicle is licensed and insured in one state and you have a valid personal drivers license, I see no reason why that wouldn’t work.
