Finland Moves To Block Asylum-Seekers From Entering Via Russia

Finland plans to adopt temporary legislation that will allow its border authorities to block asylum seekers seeking to enter its territory from Russia, the government said on Friday.

Finland closed all crossings on its 1,340 km (830 mile) border with Russia late last year amid a growing number of arrivals who lacked valid documents to enter the European Union. However, a few asylum seekers have continued to arrive and the government believes the numbers could rise significantly with the advent of spring and a rise in temperatures.

Helsinki accuses Moscow of funnelling migrants to the border, a claim the Kremlin has denied.

Interesting is that the hard far-right cabinet isn’t telling what information they have to base this decision on, while apparently the rise in numbers haven’t been a toll to Finland’s asylum seeker capacity.

They probably have data about drumroll please, the amount of people wanting to get into EU without papers allowing them to. This isn’t some unheard of tactic that is suddenly popping up. Russians have been sending migrants at borders for years. It’s their “trick”. Even going as far as to fly people to Russia, to later force them at the border.

Yep, it’s a known phenomenon from Russia. There’s just no evidence yet that those migrants could be denied entry. They aren’t generally at any fault themselves and bad actors in their midst should be investigated.
