If you follow the links on the Wikipedia page (the one where France is at 60% of the US level), you’ll see they’re tracking median not mean. So it’s not skewed by Bill.
And yes, the statistics are counter-intuitive, but that’s the point. People in Mississippi may have a worse university system and medical system than those in France, but the US is simply that much richer.
