The Akira Class Starship

The Akira class starship was designed for short range tactical assignments and defensive missions.

Entering service in 2370 the Akira class played pivotal roles during the Battle of Sector 001, several engagements during the Dominion War and the USS Protostar incident in 2384.

Smaller than most starships designed for tactical assignments the Akira class does not feature a secondary hull. Instead it’s engineering section is located at the rear of the saucer and the main weapon systems are located in a weapons pod between the warp nacelles featuring multi-directional torpedo launchers.

Two protruding hull sections connected to the nacelle pylons offers protection for the main bridge while the navigation deflector is recessed into the ventral section of the hull giving further protection for this critical component.

11 Akira class starships were constructed by Utopia Planitia with two examples (USS Sentinel & USS Wersching) currently on display at the Fleet Museum at Athan Prime.
