I am reading The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe after a long time and several attempts. Not that the author is verbose (which he is not) or cryptic, but his writing is a bit challenging for contemporary standards. The way Gene Wolfe creates the entire ambiance and atmosphere is impressive and this book is a masterpiece, which leaves me ecstatic and thoughtful at the same time. 1/2
There is an abundance of Fantasy books on the market and, very unfortunately, the vast majority are mediocre. Could it be that, due to all the effects of the cultural industry, we have become so accustomed to mediocrity? I'm kind of sad to have discovered this book so late. 2/2
