among the many, many fascinating things i've learned from joe nick patoski's tremendous #WillieNelson biography: sam cutler very briefly worked as willie's tour manager circa late 1974, less than a year after he was fired by the #GratefulDead & before he co-founded manor downs. cc: @Corry342
#NowReading - joe nick patoski's mammoth & complex 2008 #WillieNelson book was everything i wanted. deep biography & a nuanced portrait of willie entwined with #country music biz history & #texas honky tonk underworld economics, much the same way the story of the grateful dead is inseparable from psychedelics. very recommended. really catches willie's uplifting & genuine charisma. along with the sam cutler convergence (see above) a few more fascinating-to-me bits to follow... @bookstodon#books
@bourgwick@bookstodon Listened to his interview with Conan last night on my drive home. It was a great conversation but also let his funny personality shine.
He mentioned that Johnny Cash would call him when he was down to ask Willie to tell him a dirty joke.
