I can't believe this thing/startup/shit raised $400 million like, do you have any idea how many independent and or traditionally published writers would like to make more grants with that money instead? Moreover, I'd love a #MutualAid kind of effort where people give money to fund books in progress but the only criteria is you must have 3 chapters of the work completed or something. Sad thing is I know a few readers in the @bookstodon community would unironically buy this nonsense. Ugh! Thankfuly, readers have much better taste than what others believe, but it's mostly tech readers that love this idea. Like, more tech than reader, the kind of person that's confused as to why people would willingly buy human narrated audiobooks over AI generated audiobooks. @FeralRobots

I've had the good fortune to have a story produced with a real actor doing the voiceover. I'm a pretty good reader, but he made creative choices I wouldn't have & produced something better because of it. I can't see how some generative model could do that.
i don't know that anybody reads on Inkitt, tech bros like this kind of thing because they want to sell to credulous investors not because they think they're going to get any readers
AFAICT, nobody reads serial fic in English anywhere except wanna-be writers, so while Inkitt sorta does seem like a pyramid scheme, the writers do know what the (lousy) deal is in advance & it's on them if they publish there anyway
