Problems seeding new torrent

I’m trying to fill a new ebook request on MaM. So far I’ve:

  1. Removed the DRM from the ebook.
  2. Created the torrent using mktorrent (the docker version of qBit doesn’t allow you to create a new torrent, so I used mktorrent)
  3. Uploaded the torrent file to MaM

However, I can’t figure out how the heck to get my dockerized qbittorrent to seed the file. I tried going to FileAdd torrent file but then qBittorrent just looks to download the torrent (the same one I’m actually just trying to seed).

How do I do this? Is this another shortcoming of the containerized qBittorrent? If so, what other program can I use?

I know this is noob stuff but I can’t seem to figure this out.

AzzyDev ,

You can move the ebook file to where qbittorrent is trying to download it to, and then recheck. It’ll then recognize that the file is there, and should work as a seed.

HamSwagwich ,

You need to right click and point it to the proper directory where the files are located.

RMB -> Set Location

Start the torrent. It should say Checking Files, count up to 100%, and then start seeding.

Okay thanks. I ended up just creating a windows VM and installed qBittorrent on that. The native (non-docker) application is much more intuitive for me. Next time I will try your instructions. Thanks for your help.

Why a VM?

dampfnudel OP ,

Because I run Linux

just_another_person ,

Qbittorent has a native Linux build and an Appimage. Save yourself the trouble and just run those instead.

My answer, or OP with the VM setup?

One thing you might find interesting to play around with is also namespaces. I see a lot of people using docker for Qbittorrent which is totally fine, but if you’re just wanting to isolate network interfaces then you can strip that down to just that part. Here is some documentation if you ever get interested: www.aaflalo.me/…/wireguard-and-torrent-on-linux/

    dampfnudel OP ,

    This is really helpful. Thanks!

It’s…exatly the same? You don’t know the basics of files an folders, but you’re able to create a VM? Kids today…
