The jury accepted the argument that the money transferred to the paramilitaries was used to commit war crimes such as homicides, kidnappings, extortion, torture and forced disappearances.

Did they mean crimes against humanity? What war was being fought?

Legally neither, this was a civil liability case and not a criminal proceeding. The war they are referring to is the Colombian conflict, which is ongoing.
