It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it.

Jesus H. tap-dancing Christ! My all time favorite movie. It’s got everything a mission from God needs, music, comedy, a jilted lover, probably the most epic chase scene ever filmed and Illinois Nazis.

*You are such a disappointing pair. I prayed so hard for you. It saddens and hurts me that the two young men whom I raised to believe in the Ten Commandments have returned to me as two thieves, with filthy mouths and bad attitudes." -The penguin

a mission from God

Don't you blaspheme. Don't you blaspheme in here.

music

We have both kinds, country and western.

a jilted lover

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locus. It wasn't my fault. I swear to god!"

probably the most epic chase scene ever filmed

Please be advised. The use of excessive force in the apprehension of the Blues Brother...has been approved.

and Illinois Nazis

I hate Illinois Nazis.

Its original release was considered a flop in theaters (it didn’t live up to box office expectations despite positive reviews) but it became a cult hit.

Blues Brothers still checks out - for those of us who grew up on that raw early muppets and SNL vibe. not sure what it looks like to the kids.

For what it’s worth, I watched it for the first time only a couple years ago just to see what the deal was, and I enjoyed it, probably more than I expected. It was definitely not a boring watch.

I am not nearly a kid anymore but growing up I never encountered SNL (not American) and though I was vaguely aware of them, original Muppet show was a bit before my time, I had seen very little of it, and not before a dozen years after it ended.

it’s difficult to distinguish Muppets’ and Jim Henson’s works as an adult versus childhood. I loved LOVED The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth as a kid, can’t stand either of them now. And that old SNL is super cringy to watch, but sometimes it really, really hit.
