Wait, hold the fuck up. David Tennant is returning as another Doctor!? I haven’t watched much since the Matt Smith era, but how the hell does that work with the DW lore?

deweydecibel ,

We don’t know yet.

Basically, 13 regenerated into Tennant again (changing clothes this time in the process which is unusual), and the Doctor reacts with confusion. That was the new years special last December. The specials this year will have Tennant again and explain why 13 regenerated into a familiar face. After the specials, Gotwa takes over as the official new Doctor

This seems to involve the celestial toymaker, who has the ability to alter reality.

And btw, if you haven’t watched since Smith, you really, really should dive back in and watch Capaldi’s era. Even if you didn’t care for him at first, his Doctor is a slow burn. His second and third seasons are phenomenal and by the end he rivals Tennant for my all time favorite.

Big agree. I stopped watching around season 6 and picked it back up during the pandemic starting from season 1 and Capaldi was so good

Heaven Sent is a powerhouse of an episode, in great part to Capaldi’s best performance as the Doctor.

Heaven Sent is an INCREDIBLE episode.

Also worth mentioning that Mummy on the Orient Express is my all-time favorite episode of Doctor Who. It may not be as powerful as Heaven Sent but is a more typical adventure the Doctor may experience.

Capaldi is actually my absolute favorite, Tennant slightly behind. They both bring a unique energy to the role, but I feel like Capaldi had more gravitas and emotional engagement for me. Alot of that is down to the writing too, and his chemistry with river song. The weeping angels were so good and so memorable. And as someone else mentioned, heaven sent is unbelievably good and made me want to cry.

Also Russell T. Davies is back as showrunner!
