I never used Boost for Reddit, but with this many people singing it’s praises… ***BOOST FOR LEMMY, LET’S GOOO! *** Sorry, Connect. You’re still cool tho

Weeby_Wabbit ,

I literally just discovered Connect after trying in vain to get Jerboa to work ahah. I’m so used to Boost, I can’t wait for it to be inolimented here.

legocorp , in What are Android's Best Weather Apps?

I’ve started using Forescaster, it uses the weather api from apple which is a bit meh, but the way it shows the weather is great.

squaresinger , in Archived

Btw, did I understand it correctly that Lemmotif is only read-only and you can't even select an instance/communities?

At least I couldn't find any options.

lolreconlol ,

That’s correct… not sure if it is coming, but that app looks great so far.

squaresinger ,

Ok, then it's not only me. Leitmotif is easily the best looking of the bunch, but if it's read-only and I can't even customize what content it's showing me, it's sadly pretty much unusable right now.

I hope, they are going to make it fully-featured.

M_Reimer , in is there any note taking app which hides the text written?

I think this would make working with the text incredibly difficult. Do you know about “privacy foils”? They limit the viewing angle and make it more difficult for other people to read your screen.

metarmask ,

There’s also this, where you need special glasses or it appears white. But not sure you could do it easily, but I know of a friend that had this effect happen on half her screen because of some cracks in the middle.

chiquis71 OP ,

I know what the cons would be, I rather have this than a foil.
In my experience foils obscure your screen in general, so you get inconvenienced always instead of just for a specific app.

They all kinda suck at this stage.

miketunes , in What are Android's Best Weather Apps?

Check this site for the most accurate weather provider in your area. Then choose an app that can use that as a source. www.forecastadvisor.com

MrDetermination ,

Thanks! Never occurred to me to look for an accuracy scoreboard.

I was about to write that some local (country level) have the better forecast.

Living in Switzerland, I’m using mostly MeteoSwiss as it gives me good forecast.

Do you know any similar site that works well outside us?

Revanced, Cloudstream and coffee from fdroid

Coffee is awesome. Such an easy quick way to keep screen awake. Thanks for the recommendation.

Speaking of coffee, cofi from FDroid is great for timing coffee recipes

    prey169 , in S22 Series vs S23 Series vs Pixel 7 series

From what I’ve seen, 23u has a good 3 hours extra battery life compared to the 22u and it will run cooler. I think in regards to any of these phones, performance is gonna be great and negligible.

I prefer Samsung over pixels these days, mostly because I feel like Google has some flaws with software bugs and I’m not a fan of their new quick toggle menu compared to the older one that Samsung still uses. And I prefer good lock mostly just to move the clock back to the right side of the notification bar.

But if you prefer pixels phones, I think battery life will be on par with the last year snapdragon phones if not slightly worse

    EddieTee77 OP ,

As time has gone on, I agree with you. Samsung has definitely grown on me over the years. Their software seems pretty efficient and light given the amount of extra features. Of course Pixel skin is lighter, but I don’t notice the sluggishness of Samsung Experience or TouchWiz.

Google Notes: Hosted Obsidian is AMAZING! You can self host for free, but I recommend supporting them.

1Password: I use Bitwarden (personal) and Keeper (work). Both, in my opinion, much better than 1Pass.

WhatsApp: this one is hard, as it has to do with your contacts. I’m in the same boat here. I use Signal for most friends, but my foreign friends use WhatsApp, which means that I do too.

    sloppy_diffuser ,

I use pretty much the same stack except I use Standard Notes over Obsidian. Obsidian I will agree has more polish, but Standard Notes is open source and undergoes 3rd party security audits every couple years. I’m okay with things being rough around the edges if a project aligns with my own principals.

I’m not familiar with Standard Notes, but I like what I’m reading about them so far. E2ee is super important and is a bit annoying that I have to encrypt my Obsidian md notes folder. That said, the fact that the notes are standard md is super nice. I may try Standard Notes. Thanks!
