C8H10N4O2 , in EU votes to mandate removable batteries in smartphones in a landslide; no more glued together junk!
@C8H10N4O2@kbin.social avatar

I might be in the minority here, but I feel this is actually a step back.

In the 5 years I've had my phone, there have been two times I've ever really needed to pull the battery, and still the hard reset sequence still eventually worked in both cases.

Anyone remember how some phones had issues with the battery door becoming somewhat loose over time, causing any slight bump to turn the phone off? Many have already commented on how they explode into multiple pieces when dropped. Traditionally the battery covers are incredibly flimsy plastic, even on flagship devices (cough Samsung). Waterproofing is a common concern too, however it actually can be done with a removable battery (e.g. Galaxy S5).

What really needed to be addressed here was how cumbersome it is to get into these devices to replace the battery, and how often people are price gouged to replace them. I believe this could have been better written to allow for either a removable battery, or a standardized and affordable built-in battery replacement process.

Mikey_donuts , in TV remote tile disappeared? [SOLVED]

Try reopening the Google TV app and using the remote from there at least one. I had something similar and that made the tile return for me.

HobbitFoot , in What phone are you using?

Pixel 7 Pro.

I’m generally happy with it, but the battery has been rather bad in that I have issues getting a full day out of it. I’ve also finding overheating issues when in 80+ degree F weather.

abominable_panda , in Monitoring battery current in Android

I think Accubattery on playstore shows charge current. Im not sure where it gets the data from but it might be what youre looking for

NaughtyKatsuragi , in What phone are you using?

What phone are you using? Huawei P50 Pro

Are you happy with it? What are its best and worst qualities? Absolutely love the phone, I’m not big on voice assistants or ecosystems so I don’t need Google to be connected across all devices and have everything linked together.

As a phone it started out rough, loss of connection very frequently, dropping calls every day. After a few months these issues resolved on there own, which may have been a carrier issue and not the phone itself. Browsing and interacting with it is seamless, games run fast, apps rarely shutdown. The Camera is spectacular, the only rival is my gfs Iphone 13 but both are amazing. The only limiting factor is small amount of unavailable apps due to the lack G.P.S. but I’m not effected I just go to the mobile site instead.

Which phones have you had previously? Which were the best and worst of the lot? Huawei Nexus 6P Huawei P20 Pro

How often do you upgrade to a new phone? Every 3 - 4 years

What other Android ecosystem devices do you have? Watches, headphones/earbuds, etc. Not sure if they count but I have a TicWatch Pro 3 and EVA Earbuds

Do you also use any Apple products, or are you Android all the way? (And/or Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, etc.) Nope, no apple for me, Windows 10.

wile_e8 , in Wireless Android Auto adapters

Add on question: Are there any wireless Android Auto adapters that are good for switching between multiple phones? I looked into AAWireless for a car that both my wife and I drive, and switching phones depending on who is driving seems… complicated. Is it? Is there another adapter that makes switching easy?

Google needs to make the three Little Pigsels, a series of special starter Pixels for children. The three Pigsels come in Straw, Wood, or Brick, and feature a stock Android UI and a standard Pixel camera to get your child started on the correct path.

TheGreenGolem , in any way to make Snapchat think it has camera permission?
@TheGreenGolem@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I really want to know that for another app for a different permission.

It would be good if we can “trick” an app to think it has a permission and stop bothering us.

I bought this one for my youngest brother. It works fine and it comes with a years worth of service. Bought it so he can call me during emergencies. https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/829226

Nokia still makes dumb phones now, with 4G too!

Check out the Nokia 225 4G and 6300 4G.

I had a Moto X Style (Moto X Pure, Moto X 3rd gen) and moto x4. I still have the latter.

The X Style had a 1440p screen, rubber back, dual front-facing speakers and infrared motion sensors on the front so that you would wave your hand over the phone to wake the screen to quickly glance the time or your notifications. It also had always-on Moto voice assistant and allowed you to set custom voice activation prompts. I had mine set to “Ok Jarvis”.

Unfortunately the display it had was extremely unreliable and faced horrible ghost touches. I got it replaced twice and both replacements ended up having the same issue after a while.

I switched to a different phone after the X Style, and then once that phone died I got the x4.

The x4 is very bare-bones in comparison, but it’s the first phone that hasn’t died on me/been killed by me. Nearly 4 years later it still carries on, despite some yellowing on the edges of the screen.

I’m on a Pixel 6a now. I miss the Moto quick gestures, especially “double chop” for flashlight.

I wish they would support their software updates more frequently and for longer.

Feature updates for at least 3 years, security updates for 5.

I’ve avoided them for their lack of update policy.

liori , in How does everyone feel about Motorola phones?

I’m not a person who’d be loyal to a brand. Yet Motorola consistently produces devices that turn out to be the best trade-offs (price to functionality) for me. And, so far, all these devices were pretty durable as well, though it’s not that I really put smartphones into lots of use. That’s all I can say.

Llamajockey , in How does everyone feel about Motorola phones?

Took a leap with the Motorola RAZR 5g in 2021. Liked the features and the UI was decent, very similar to a Google pixel with a few extras.

Bluetooth sucked and had issues with the phone being picky with its USB C cable.

Worst part…with only 9 months with the phone the foldable screen started to fail, shortly completely unusable.

The screen is conveniently not covered in the one year warranty.

Phone cost me $600 brand new from T-Mobile. Repairs with Motorola would be $900!

Contacted them through Twitter and ultimately they tried to give me a %15 discount lol

Never again with them
