Hi there, would just flag rule 2 and the existence of !askandroid, thanks!

Just wanted to chime in with my perspective- personally I feel like given how small lemmy is compared to reddit it makes more sense to have everything in one place so people actually see posts.

On reddit it felt like it made sense to keep the main android sub for just group stuff, but there’s not a ton here, so even if I never go to Taiwan, honestly I’d find it interesting to know what might be cheaper to get while there.

I’d love to see this community kept more broad until there are enough users it makes sense to split communities into smaller more specific ones some time in the future! Ultimately mods make the call on that sort of thing, but I wanted to have contributed my perspective for consideration :)

Appreciate the input! Separating it out is aimed at giving folks the option to choose what they’d like to see. Without tagging like on Reddit, there isn’t an easy way to hide content by category. Some are hoping to have a similar kind of experience as they did on the subreddit, so we’re definitely trying to find a balance between growing the Fediverse while maintaining a certain overall experience.

We do receive user reports from folks about these submissions. I think !askandroid is a useful compromise between those who want to see the content and those who don’t. The great part about Lemmy is that folks can subscribe to all kinds of communities to create their own tailored feed - so in that sense, it does all get grouped together (likewise, for folks accessing via the lemdro.id instance they do appear alongside one another on “Local”).

We had a similar situation with memes. When asked, the community generally favoured maintaining the rule against them and/or to create a separate community where memes are welcome.

Will take note of it next time, mods can take down the post if necessary.
