Pixel 9 Pro condensation in camera lens

Soooo… I’ve never had this issue on any other phone before. Is it normal to get condensation inside the camera lense (wide angle and telephoto)?

it’s dried out now, but I can see spots on the inside of the lense now that the water is gone, I can only imagine this getting worse over time, affecting quality. is this worth an RMA?

picture of condensation on the inside of the telephoto lens. the condensation on the wide angle is no longer visible.

I would certainly try.

I’ve never had that happen with my 8 Pro. I’d assume that means it’s not air tight, so you might want to at least open a ticket with Google for it.

Lojcs ,

It shouldn’t be air tight, otherwise it could break from pressure changes

Dhs92 ,

It’s supposed to be IP68 rated

Lojcs ,

That’s water and dust resistance, not air

dude what lol

Wdym? Water has surface tension and dust is solid, air doesn’t have such limitations. My own phone (note 20 ultra) has an opening under the camera bump to allow air in to relive pressure despite having an ip68 rating.

Are you sure that’s not a microphone for videos? It’d be really weird to have a hole like that. Water should easily push itself through that hole. I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to air pressure. I’m pretty sure your eardrums can survive close to a 1 atmosphere difference in pressure, and those are way more fragile than your phone. I’m not sure why your phone would need to normalize air pressure.

Ever pop your ears when going up a mountain or during flight? This is air pressure changes. Either way, water tight does not mean air tight, while air tight does mean water tight assuming the material is not water soluble.

Badabinski ,

It should still exclude water. Like, there are ways to equalize pressure that don't allow for water to condense in the phone like OP's photo. This is a Bad Thing™.

Lenses for full size-cameras are made alright. It’s not a problem.

My 9 pro did this last Friday when sitting on the AC vent in my car which I too have never seen before.

My 8 pro sat in the same place many times.

Well, you saved me a search, and op saved me from buying a Pixel 9.

Stache_ ,

I agree, it’s not gunna get any better and could get worse with time. I’d be worried about the waterproof/resistance ability of it (idk what the rating is). Doesn’t hurt to open a ticket with Google

new pixel with not ready for prime time gremlins, you don't say, where have i heard that before, except with every single pixel release since the dawn of time. every one.

Ilandar ,

No, it is not normal as far as I know (within the world of smartphones). However, this was a widely reported problem with one of Xiaomi’s recent flagships so it could be a similar design flaw.

I read that the Xiaomi Ultra 14 also has similar issues with lens fogging up.

Is it too much to ask that the manufacturers of super expensive phones test their phones before selling them?

I guess so.
