Indiana police have dogs that sniff specifically for cash at the US’s 2nd biggest FedEx hub, then they simply keep the money

(edit) Would someone please ship some counterfeit money through there and get it confiscated, so the police can then be investigated for spending counterfeit money?

Treczoks ,

Ahh, the land of the free! And the innocent until proven guilty!

Blaster_M ,

So, don’t ship boxes of money. Bank transfers or checks. If you’re getting garnished, I’m sorry to say, but pay your debts.

notacat ,

It is not illegal to send money by mail and there are legitimate reasons to do so. This is a blatant money grab by a corrupt government.

What debts are you talking about? Do you think that these people owed money?

Fosheze ,

Disclaimer: I don’t agree with this person.

But they’re aluding to the fact that one of the main reasons people don’t use banks is because they owe someone money and their bank accounts are able to be garnished. The only sure fire way to keep your money from being garnished is to keep it as physical cash.

Yeah, Grandmothers sending cash for birthdays was where my mind was going.

arin ,

This is not garnish because it went to the police department. Garnished wage goes to the debt payment

Blaster_M ,

Correct. I am referring to the “what about” objection of not using banks because of debt collection

What a mess (︶︹︺)

Why would you not just use USPS wtf

That’s your takeaway from this story?!

Warl0k3 , (edited )

People can take two things away at once. Indiana is just as corrupt as ever (but in this fun new flavour!) and the reason you use USPS over another carrier is that USPS has federal protections and UPS/FedEx have none of those (and also they are bootlicking scum)

M0oP0o OP ,
@M0oP0o@mander.xyz avatar

Your response seems to be “why don’t people use the government backed service” and not “wholy shit I live in a Kleptocracy”

It seems to be a combination of victim blaming (thier fault for not shipping with USPS) and the normalization of tyranny (if the states ever wanted to water that liberty tree now would be a good time).

Warl0k3 , (edited )

Again, people can have multiple takeaways to a story, like:

  • It’s advisable to use USPS as they have federal protections for the customer that UPS/FedEx do not
  • Indiana is a terrible place full of corrupt bullshit like this
  • Op doesn’t know what victim blaming is
  • The US is a kleptocracy
this_1_is_mine ,

Its a full on problem with the businesses though. Not just semi justifiable confiscations. But how about when… youtu.be/yKB7zqoLe5M

Oh and another from the same person years 4 later

The police work for UPS/Fedex/DHL? News to me. I think you are confusing civil asset forfeiture to corporate corruption (not saying that they are not both bad and happening).

They will just arrest whoever sent it for distributing it.
