Defund the police, over and over they are telling us, directly, that this OUR problem not theirs. Put the money into healthcare and public transit.

My father is a cop. We talked about car thefts because it was in the news and he told me they had some federal police come in and give them a lesson on how these car theft rings work. He said nobody at the local station understood it. It was far too technical and convoluted. He said all he knows for sure is that they work in groups and one guy has a laptop. Also, the people who touch the cars are mules who know little to nothing about the group they work for and often get paid in crypto currency. Then he told me nobody at the station knows how crypto currency works.

Police are way behind on crimes involving any sort of technology.

WarmSoda ,

Sounds like anything more complicated than “stop or I’ll shoot” is beyond most of them.

PunnyName ,

Because their actual job is to protect the rich, and the rich’s assets.

WarmSoda ,

Bingo. You get it.

So I should just start committing crimes too complicated for cops to understand!

Our car got stolen last year, the Hamilton police said “call your insurance company.”

It took the guy 5 min from opening the door to driving away and as far as I know the only technical part is that they use some hardware to relay the key fob signals. They relay the keyless/proximity unlock signal to get in, then they pair a new fob to the car using the manufactures method. Normally that requires all other paired fobs to be present at the same time BUT they are relaying those signals so the “security” there is bypassed.

The icing on the cake is that the cops didn’t even bother to cruise by the next night as the neighbour’s car got stolen as well.

Do you own a business?

@nik282000@lemmy.ca avatar

Nope.

WarmSoda ,

Thats why.

Son_of_dad ,

I think you mean corporation. They don’t care about small business owners either, they only care if you’re stealing from Walmart

WarmSoda ,

Nah, local cops care about local businesses. The difference between a private home and a business being broken into is pretty big when it comes to response time.

InfiniteStruggle ,

Any idea why?

Son_of_dad ,

Sounds like the problem is that we keep hiring dumbasses to be cops, they can’t even understand a seminar about their jobs

nik282000 OP ,

I think it’s the other way round, only dumbasses want the job. The same thing happens with middle management and politicians, anyone smart enough to do the job well is smart enough not to take it.

Son_of_dad ,

I live in Toronto and work in condo management. I once called the cops about a car theft in the building. We had hd camera footage with the entire act, clear faces, getaway car, plates, everything. The cops could not even pretend to care, and right away told us there wasn’t anything to be done. They act annoyed when we call them about attempted break ins at the building.

But if you’re Walmart, they’ll be all over those shop lifters for you. The rest of us get the shaft. Toronto police is a disgrace, always has been. Never forget the G20.

Sounds expensive. how about just “Everyone gets a car!”
