The article shows a low- and high-powered version of the qualcomm chips - will users of these chips be able to change the power profile of these chips themselves, or will they be locked in before they are sold?
I’m still on the Go 1 waiting for a 512gb version ;-). It’s probably not what you want as a daily driver. For me it’s something I use in meetings and on airplanes when I travel. For that it’s perfect.
That’s mostly what I used my pro 7 for, but even that it struggled with. With nothing else running doing RDP I get 2-3 hours of battery life which is just awful. And if I try to do widi or just about anything at all on the screen I get closer to an hour of battery life until the throttling sets in and it’s unusable. Thank god the pro 8 added a fan for all models.
Battery life is much better on the go I think. Even on my old model, if I turn off wifi and turn down the brightness I can take notes all day. On full brightness with no Wi-Fi I can watch videos for like 4-6 hours on the plane. But when I have Wi-Fi or LTE enabled, it’s probably only 3 hours. I’m sure a new one would improve that by 50% or so. But you don’t want to have more than 2-3 apps open at a time, and you wanna use Firefox instead of Chrome.
Embracing the sustainable… sounds good Tablets especially have no reason to not be easy to take apart they shouldn’t be a device consumers expect high IPX ratings for and their tasks can make them viable for a long time. I just went from 0-2 iPads a 2 and a first gen air, the air has a dodgy battery and the ifixit guide has about 80 steps! But both function fine in 2023 apart from the by design obsolescence.
If you haven’t been seeing the steady stream of news coming out of the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit taking place in Hawaii, it’s time to catch up.
Breaking news already hit with the announcement of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform that looks to outperform both Mac and Intel, as well as the popular video editing app Davinci’s Resolve coming to ARM.
After the introduction, George Zhao took the stage and talked through several of their upcoming projects, but the presentation finished with the exciting news that HONOR is developing an ARM PC using the newly announced Snapdragon X Elite platform.
The presentation promises that the new PC will have incredible performance, on-device AI, and multi-device connectivity and will be lightweight and slim.
This announcement will likely be the first of many companies as the promise of the power and performance of the new Snapdragon platform entices them to develop new ARM PCs.
George Zhao’s comments on collaboration were well-timed as the tech industry gets increasingly competitive, and companies like Qualcomm and HONOR are working together to bring great consumer products to market.

The “real version”? There is no “real version” of Android. I wouldn’t pick Microsoft specifically because they don’t have a track record of supporting their phones.
If you want android you'd normally go with a phone that is supported by the main contributors /maintainers. doesn't even have to be made by google. but I think that was already pretty clear so you might just be a contrarian. please correct me if you actually had a point.
I think I made the point pretty clear… There really isn’t a phone with the “real android” and it’s best to check the company’s track record of updates. It seems like you just reworded my point while missing that I just stated the same thing.
No thanks. We don’t need more closed and bloated spyware, what we need is more open and privacy respecing OSes like GNU/Linux and devices using it like Steam Deck.
Like how to get publicity when you’re using windows media, or delete all non subscription software from the system, or how to make the CPU run at 15% when idle(oh no it’s already a windows 10 feature)…
I don’t think it’s hardware, more brand and exclusives. The casual player bought a PlayStation 4, so they buy a PlayStation 5. The gaming enthusiast knows that there’s just more varied and interesting games coming out on Sony’s platform. In terms of performance, the Xbox also frequently under performs against the PS5 regularly (not by significant margins usually, but still) when on paper it should be the more powerful console.
Myself, I have an Xbox Series S along with a crappy old 1080p plasma and 3 years of Game Pass, and I’m at a time in my life where I don’t have the time I used to to play loads of games all the time. I’m happy with the Series S, but if you’re coming fresh to this generation of consoles, I can’t see why you wouldn’t just buy PS5 as that’s where the games are.
