Thailand’s Constitutional Court on Wednesday ordered the dissolution of anti-establishment opposition party Move Forward, ruling its campaign to amend a law that protects the monarchy from criticism risked undermining the democratic system.
My partner is a refugee from Thailand. She was imprisoned for criticizing the monarchy online. I don’t know if the Move Forward party is the one she supports or adjacent and I’m not going to wake her to ask (today is her day off and she deserves to sleep in). This law, lèse-majesté, is bullshit.
They understand democracy alright. They just don’t like it. They’re a part of a repressive system that does anything in its power to prevent the will of the Thai people from being enacted.
