I don’t have an issue with any of this. Private Business owners can sell their products or services to whoever they want. Don’t see what the big deal is. If you don’t like it, there’s plenty more competition willing to take your money.

Good.

Yeah, historically that didn’t work out great for everyone. There’s a reason if you open a public business in the United States you are expected to serve the public.

Uh. I wonder what might have caused that…

The real challenge will be seeing if the servers can handle the new traffic. It’s already a bit on the slow side loading posts

tdawg ,

imo the servers have already been having trouble from time to time. Get all kinds of weird issues. Would be very willing to see like a monthly donation goal in a sidebar or something

Cornpop ,

I would donate for sure

Today I’ve started a recurring $5/month donation to lemmy.world. Scaling up infrastructure to meet demand is expensive, and they need as much help as they can get to offset their costs. I’ll most likely bump it up to $10 a month if the software continues to improve the UX and performance. I encourage everyone that has the means to, to even make a one time small donation to your local instance (if possible), as these first couple months will be critical in the growth and sustainability of this federated community.

I’d like to say glad to bere here, but tbh it makes me sad to leave behind my Reddit account of almost a decade.

Lemmy look promising though (and still slightly confusing :)

PsychedSy ,

I’m glad there’s an impetus to change. I have some reservations about the fediverse, but I think it’s got the right idea and will evolve into something better itself, or help us learn more about designing social media systems for users.

BedSharkPal ,

Give kbin a shot if you find Lemmy confusing. I found it much more approachable personally.

He fired the worlds biggest experts on the technology at Twitter and thought he could do it better with a skeleton staff. Now the dead body rots. The skeleton is there. It smells musky, and the site has died.

Legitimately most of them
