Very impressed with the showcase and this jumped to the top of my list of games for 2023. Still won’t pre-order it and am expecting a classic buggy Bethesda launch experience.
After the past 2 years I’m definitely going in cautiously with anything owned by MS. GamePass is decent, but their studios have been whiffing it lately.
I selfhost codimd, vaultwarden, kuma, immich, home assistant, trilium, hugo, gotify, wakapi and umami. I have one VPS and one custom built NAS at home.
I’ve been playing System Shock 2, the original version i got from GOG (it took a bit to make the controls work but it works fine, though i found a weird bug with non-Steam games in that if you rename the game it loses the control settings - e.g. i set up the controls when the icon was named “SS2.exe” but when i renamed it to “System Shock 2” later it lost the settings until i renamed it back to “SS2.exe” :-P).
I also played a bit of Stranger of Sword City, a turn-based and grid-based blobber. I find the deck works fine with such games.
Also both games play just fine at ~5Watt settings (i like to optimize the settings per-game to get more battery life out of the system).

I use Endeavour. It’s not necessarily easy and not necessarily hard but there’s a Calamares installer and the website has really good instructional articles and forums. Comes with Dracut now which is super fast compared to mkinitcpio. Everything runs great for me and I have similar hardware (same GPU, AMD 7800X3D proc). Tbh I would just recommend rolling release for gaming.
My wife was truely offended the first time I said this to her, which is very rare, because she didn’t know it was a reference. Now its good for a double laugh.
Our smaller instance that has been federating for a bit more than a year now (started in March 2022) is now at 2.4gb for the database and 7gb for the image storage (which probably needs some clean-up from previous image spam waves).
One other option is the “Always Free” tier on Oracle Cloud. You get some potato EPYC instances and some Altera ARM ones that are quite nice.
There are people who have issues with their accounts getting banned with no recourse, but I’ve used OCI free for over a year with no issues (and run a Mastodon instance on some of the ARM stuff), and know a good number of people who have various services running on it with no issue long-term, so YMMV.
The price is right, though, and you should keep current backups regardless.
I had this long post typed out on Jeroba about why I wouldn’t recommend it, but maybe I hit the character limit? IDK. Anyway, the point I wanted to get across is that I’ve been down that road, and up until February it was going ok, but one should absolutely not trust the Oracle free tier for any service that should be reliable long term, they can and will take the VM down and take back that generous free tier allotment, and IIRC sometimes without any notice. In my case it was literally because my VM was under utilized. No option to downscale my instance, just a notification that they’re taking my allotment back and deleting the VM a few weeks before it happened.
