lily , to mildlyinfuriating in Maybe I just don't get it, but articles that talk about what a celebrity is wearing that is almost always going to be some kind of product placement...

And its almost always not the actual item is clothing anyway, just a cheap knock-off.

The_iceman_cometh , to youshouldknow in YSK: A car takes uses about seven seconds worth of fuel to start up. If you are going to idle for a period of time longer than that, you'll save fuel by turning your engine off.

It’s not necessarily an issue of fuel, but the overall wear on the components and engine when you start a car. A starter motor only has so many “starts” it can do before dying. The battery too.

Starter motors have gotten a lot better since the “bad old days” and engines start more smoothly thanks to fuel injection and computer control systems, so manufacturers have decided that it’s ok to start/stop engines as needed, but the reason for not doing it was never a matter of fuel savings.

razorwiregoatlick , to futurama in Do you think younger generations will enjoy Futurama (both new/upcoming episodes and older content)?
@razorwiregoatlick@lemmy.world avatar

My son who is 15 just started watching it and loves it. Seems like it has appeal across generations.

YumChurros , to newcommunities in a community for Sacramento kings fans

Hmmm. Sorry for being a noob, but I can’t figure out how to subscribe. Any guidance?

fennec , to maliciouscompliance in [REPOST] You can't continue working from home because you go idle in chat too often
@fennec@feddit.de avatar

I’m a remote employee in a similar position, I also finish my work in about 3-4 hours in any given day (mileage varies). My performance reports have been at a consecutive 100% and I don’t see why I should change my ways. Honestly I don’t give a damn if people think I’m slacking off if I go and do some gardening during the day, if anything finishing my work early just makes me very productive :)

Gravelsack , to steamdeck in What are you folks playing on Steam Deck these day?

I’ve been playing RimWorld on my deck since I got it last August. Does it play other games? I have no idea.

seethepattern , to mildlyinfuriating in Hey, you at the very left, may I have some toilet paper, please?

Where in the world is this?

erisir , to selfhosted in [SOLVED] Selfhosted or alternative privacy driven google calendar?

I’m using Etebase as a self-hosted backend for this purpose. It is zero-knowledge, so not even your own server knows about your calerdar, to-do list, and contacts (but it does know when have you edited entries, I think).

There’s an android app for synchronization, and on the desktop, you can run a daemon to expose a standard CalDAV/CardDAV interface for e.g., Thunderbird. The alternative is the Flutter-based client, either on the web or as a desktop app, I think, but I much rather prefer Thunderbird (I have other accounts from work to synchronize, too, and TB lets me look at them in one place).

I’m not sure about the Todoist integration, though. That sounds like it would compromise privacy.

eee , to maliciouscompliance in [REPOST] Don't interfere with our operation!

I don’t get why a nonprofit would actively stop their VOLUNTEERs from helping.

it’s already free labour… what do you want?

eee , to maliciouscompliance in [REPOST] That one time my son was sent home because of dress code violation at school.

i think i remember reading the original (or a similar story) before, good one!

This is exactly the kind of story I want to see more of on here! Well done!

Varyag , to gaming in Which game would you want to get rebooted?

The Burnout, WipeOut and Ridge Racer series. All of those are perhaps the best arcade racers ever released on consoles, and they’re all dead now. I’ve been playing the PS1 and PS2 games, and they all still hold up tremendously today.

NM156 , to piracy in What's the replacement for RARBG now?

As of today the only one similar to RARBG is

TorrentGalaxy.to

After that I’d go with…

MagnetDL.com

TorrentDownload.info

Torlock.com

1337x.to/home

Torrentz2.nz

SolidTorrents.to

ThePirateBay.org

Ext.to

ExtraTorrents.it

EZTV.re

LimeTorrents.cc

TorrentLeech.org

web.stremio.com (for viewing and direct downloads)

YTS.mx (.mp4 only)

Personally, I use a combination of MagnetDL.com and TorrentGalaxy.to… That gets me back to my search routine for everything I usually found on RARBG… TorrentDownload.info and Torlock.com are solid options as well…

Hopefully when all the smoke clears, RARBG will be able to start up again…

Happy Torrenting!..
