The reason why Tor is publicly available is to get lots of people using to better hide western intelligence agency traffic. So this article is basically stenography for the CIA. It may be secure or whatever, but you’re essentially helping US assets hide their internet traffic.

Are there any good iOS Tor browsers? All that I’ve seen are either shit or require some insane subscription.

milo ,

Onion Browser is decent.

@fearout@kbin.social avatar

Both are broken as far as I know. First one hasn’t updated for years, and recent reviews for the second one claim it crashes on startup.

milo ,

I use this one on my iPhone and iPad and I’ve had no issues.

haakon ,

Due to Apple’s policies, there are no good ones. The least bad one is called Onion Browser and is recommended by the Tor Project.

jcg ,

Interesting, is this due to all browsers being required to use Safari or something? I always figured since there are VPNs on iPhone that TOR would be no problem.

jarfil ,

You can use any browser you want with Tor, the issue is that browsers are the main source of tracking and de-anonymization, so by being forced to use Safari there is only so much that Tor can do to keep you anonymous.

With the way YouTube treats creators with their demonetization policies, there’s no way I am going to pay for that.

What do you need an announcement for? They’ll have informed the affected subscribers by mail, as they always do, and adjusted the prices on the sign-up page. Who else needs to be informed? I don’t really give a shot about the pricing of a service I don’t use.

Wow, and I just cancelled mine yesterday, crazy timing.

How can billion dollar companies justify this bullshit, when their main source of income is advertisers anyways?

    Marcy_Stella ,

YouTube premium is their way of hedging bets against advertiser revolts they don’t want a controversy like Elsagate or Logan Paul’s forest adventures to cause their profits to tank.

According to BlueSky’s own timeline - the original account was deleted 18 days after it was created. They were quick to react once they knew about it, but they took too long to find it.

That was also followed by almost two weeks of activity without clearly making any statement about what was going on. Better late than never but this “Letter to the Community” should have been written over a week ago.

As for how long it should take to take an account offline on Lemmy - personally I’d like to see some kind of karma based system. If an active account that’s been around for years is flagged… maybe ignore that unless there are multiple flags. But if a brand new account or an old account that hasn’t been very active is flagged, kill it instantly and flag it to be investigated (and potentially restored).
