Damn this is huge.

I keep an account there to catch up with relatives in other countries, nothing else gets on my feed.

It only took a couple hundred years for them to respond to all the theft they did? Better late than never I guess.

humdrumgentleman , to technology in Netflix to open branded retail stores for some reason

I went to the Stranger Things popup in Vegas. Not gonna lie, I had a good time. It was like an amusement park exhibit with the classic gift shop at the end, but the prices didn’t seem inflated. If I was interested in buying merch, I’d rather go to to one of these than just order it online. I’m not saying it will be successful, but I don’t hate them for trying it.

And, yes, they did sell DVD boxed sets.

_number8_ , to technology in Netflix to open branded retail stores for some reason

this sucks so much

i also hate that they’re gonna hire real people, to staff and manage the places, and those people are gonna start slowly convincing themselves that maybe it’s not stupid to wake up and get dressed and go to work so people can buy an orange is the new black sweater. which is really sad, the quiet desperation of it all. people’s livelihood now depends on this garbage.

    You’re thinking of the FCC.

ominouslemon , to technology in The FTC wants to ban hidden 'junk fees' that jack up the price of your purchases

Yet again, I can’t understand the rationale behind the FTC’s choice of their targets

    Atom ,

To target something so ubiquitous that everyone has dealt with it and doesn’t like it?

    ominouslemon ,

Sure, but I’d rather see them tackle something bigger and more substantial

    ArgentRaven ,

Idk, it makes sense to me. ISPs, utilities, cell phone providers are all guilty of this. I don’t want to read fine print for these sorts of transactions.

What would you rather the FTC tackle?

sqw , to technology in Samsung’s new T9 Portable SSD is twice as fast as the T7
    @sqw@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

i had a lot of problems with my t7 and went through an absolutely excruciating return process. the bad service now makes me think twice about buying samsung products in general, but i had zero issues and was very happy with my samsung memory products before the t7.

i would get great read/write performance, but i think it had some bad blocks or whatever (confirmed but not apparently correctable with samsung magician) that id run into; when that would happen the drive would get a red blinkenlight, my pc would freak out, refuse to dismount the drive, unplugging/replugging was of no use, and the only temporary remedy involved a full reboot.

This is the real answer. If your business relies of billions in VC money every year to stay afloat, then you don’t have a sustainable business and probably shouldn’t keep doing what you’re doing. Last time I checked Uber eats has a negative margin on every order…

    PiecePractical ,

If your business relies of billions in VC money every year to stay afloat, then you don’t have a sustainable business and probably shouldn’t keep doing what you’re doing.

This right here. We need to see unprofitable “disruptors” close before they wreck existing systems and drive up the cost of living and/or drive down the quality of life for everyone. How many previously profitable businesses who provided decent jobs closed because they couldn’t complete with Amazon while Amazon wasn’t even technically making a profit? How much of the current housing crisis is driven by AirBNB and such? They drove up housing prices in the name of cheap weekend rentals and now the weekend rentals aren’t even cheap anymore.

There used to be lots of delivery models that were profitable while paying people fairly. Door dash and others just convinced us all to cut each other’s throats for a brief window of savings.
