The British Museum has asked the public to help identify and recover ancient artefacts that have gone missing from its collection.
Last month a member of staff was sacked and police launched an investigation after around 2,000 treasures were reported “missing, stolen or damaged” over a “significant” period of time.
In an attempt to recover the rest, it has put details and images of the types of objects that are missing on its website.
As well as classical Greek and Roman gems, there are rings, earrings and other pieces of jewellery - some dating back to the late Bronze Age.
The museum also said said it would work alongside an international panel of experts to identify and recover the items, and had placed them on the Art Loss Register.
James Ratcliffe, director of recoveries at the Art Loss Register, said the museum had “carefully balanced the need to provide information to the public to assist the recovery efforts with the fact that providing too much detail risks playing into the hands of those who might act in bad faith”.

Even though I have prime, I think I've used their video service like 2 or 4 times. The interface is shit and the included media was sub par the vast majority of the time unless I wanted to pay to watch something that wasn't included.
They recently updated the app interface across the board, it is much more like Netflix or others streaming apps than it was. They’ve gotten a lot of good original content and taken over some things that were cancelled elsewhere (like The Expanse).
I don’t like this change although it seems they’re all doing it, but their platform and content are pretty good these days. They are also one of the cheaper services these days if you just do a video sub, and they don’t charge a premium for 4k.
What brand makes good tea, in your opinion? (I feel like I should push my box of PG Tips into the back of the kitchen cabinet. I'm American and drink a lot of matcha green tea so what do I know.)
Where I live there are a couple of tea blenders that make various different loose leaf offerings.
You can get good loose leaf on amazon too from (e.g.) teapigs or whittard.
In my experience, the trick with loose leaf is to not to get the ones that have been ground too finely, as they make a too strong brew and the bits can pass through the filter leaving you with a dusty cuppa.
I will admit though… sometimes I want a quick tea, and I may just make a pg tips… not as good, but less faff than getting the tea pot ready etc

Authorities have seized an allegedly looted headless statue, believed to depict Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, from a museum in Cleveland, Ohio.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper, the museum’s website had until recently described the statue as “The Emperor as Philosopher, probably Marcus Aurelius (reigned AD 161-180)”.
But a few weeks ago the website changed to say it is a “Draped Male Figure, c 150 BCE-200 CE” of possibly Greek or Roman origin.
The statement added that the museum “believes that public discussion before a resolution is reached detracts from the free and open dialogue between the relevant parties that leads to the best result for all concerned”.
On Thursday, they said it was related to an “ongoing criminal investigation into a smuggling network involving antiquities looted from Turkey and trafficked through Manhattan.”
Zeynep Boz, the head of the Department for Combating Illicit Trafficking at Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said in a statement that “the enduring dispute surrounding this matter has kept Marcus Aurelius separated from his hometown for far too long”.
