#OnThisDay in #history - in 1628, a courtier and #royal favorite, George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham, was killed by John Felton. Parliament had twice wanted to impeach Villiers in his position as Lord Admiral as he was utterly incompetent and corrupt, but the king had protected him both times. The King already had a tenuous relationship with Parliament, but his relationship with Villiers was part of a confluence of factors which led him to rule w/o it for 11 years. #OTD#histodons@histodons
