Yesterday I presented my research on the Bremen ship Concordia at the German Historical Institute London. Thanks for a full house & a lively discussion! Special thanks to Clemens Villinger for the warm welcome and for chairing the session. I took the opportunity to visit the new Roman "Legion" exhibition at the British Museum.
In 1748, the Santa Catharina, bound from Basra to Bengal, was captured, carrying documents in Armenian, Persian & Ottoman Turkish. Some are now housed at the British Library & the rest at The National Archives, UK.
Join us Monday as we discuss these unique documents: shorturl.at/hGHIZ

The Jupiter of Plymouth was laden with woolen cloth and pilchards when it was captured on its way to Madeira in 1746.
The ship and its cargo were restored by the High Court of Admiralty, but the court retained many documents from the vessel as evidence, including dozens of cloth samples in a variety of colors.
Textile samples, whether wool, silk, linen or cotton can often be found in the Prize Papers collection.
