Today in Writing History January 19, 1809: Edgar Allan Poe was born. “The Raven” made Poe an overnight sensation. Yet, he spent much of his life in poverty. Poe originally considered having an owl or parrot, rather than a raven, quote “Nevermore.” Poe was a binge drinker who sometimes remained sober for months before falling off the wagon again. His alcoholism worsened as he got older. He died in 1849, mostly likely from alcoholism. His grave remained unmarked until 1865. For 60 years, from 1949 until 2009, the “Poe Toaster” left a bottle of cognac and three roses on Poe’s grave every January 19th.

Finished THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER & I am blown away by how Mike Flanagan was able to create a fresh, compelling tale whilst incorporating so many Poe elements that seemed effortlessly organic to the story & infused it w dark beauty. I LOVED it. Kudos to ALL the talent involved. 🖤

Watched the first episode last night and loved it! I'll probably go into more detail once I'm done, but that will be in a week or so.
But... I hope everyone checks it out because so far I can see the potential and it's spooky & FANTASTIC.

I don't like the pop culture practice of binging a Thing all at once and plan on watching one episode of Flanagan's THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER a night... I'm hoping fervently that I'm not going to be spoiled about the show until I manage to watch it all 🤞

Are you going to binge, or is anyone weird like me 😁?
