? I started Early Morning Riser... I'm not sure it's romance? But I really like the voice and I'm pretty sure a romance reader rec'd it so am hoping for the best.

Also read Four Weeks in Winter by Jane Donnelly, which is available from the Internet Archive. Enjoyable oldie, with the main character's boss acting as her fake fiance to protect her from a jerky old flame.

Started the new Olivia Atwater but I don't seem to be in a gothic mood.

@willaful Struggling with Death at a Scottish Wedding, the second in a cozy series by Lucy Connelly/Candace Havens. The ARC needed a serious copy editing pass, and the setting (snowed in an old Scottish castle with some 50 strangers and murder) has been for the most part wasted.

Ah well.

Reading a contemporary romance where the female lead--supposedly somewhere in her twenties--equates saying "I love you" to someone, with actually feeling love for that person.

And when she mentions this to other people in her life, the nod along as if this weren't the twee-est twee-ing that ever twee-ed.

(this is why I struggle so with contemporary romance)

? I started Wolf at Bay, the Sequel to Wolf at the Door. I find it fascinating that the main character, though gay and out, has so many issues stemming from toxic masculinity. Will be interested to see if that gets explored throughout the series.

? I’ve Shadow Dance by Christine Feehan ( 8/Shadow Riders). The series moves from Chicago to New York. More secrets of the mysterious worldwide shadow riding past & present are revealed. TW for discussion of past child abuses. This Feehan series has fewer horror elements than some others. Recommend to start with book 1. @romancebooks @bookstodon

I’ve Scandal by Amanda Quick (2009) in . It’s a standalone historical with a fab FMC, + a MMC who could have passed as a modern Dom if Quick had wanted. Wonderful character development and a solid plot with the MMC maturing under his wife’s influences. I come back to it every 200 titles or so as I re-listen to my catalog. @romancebooks @bookstodon

??? I’ve finished Strange Love by Ann Aguirre. This is a Very Alien with a sweet, sexy . It’s not for folks who want almost-human males with humanoid lives & conviences. TW for toxic families, death, & abduction. I on the recommendation of other Mastodon readers & enjoyed it. @romancelandia @romancebooks @bookstodon

I Healing Her Heart by Miranda Martin. This is the 1st of her new spinoff series from the Red Planet of Tajss world. It was published in April. I am always interested in second marriage , particularly widows/widowers. This fated mates addresses grief and recovery, and I honestly loved that the human MC was a chaplain (pastoral rather than liturgical). @bookstodon
