Help @bookstodon, kid is looking for her next read. Loved the Lunar Chronicles, Caraval, Court of Thorns and Roses, Maximum Ride. Suggestions?

Tiny book reviews! @bookstodon

Saffron Alley by AJ Demas: Still love the characters and setting, pacing was a little odd.

Infinite Jes by Sam Starbuck: Fun characters, more Jewish than the last one, fade-to-black/sweet romance aspects made it feel a bit toothless, but adorable.

I've just reposted my article ✨ Doing Gender on Purpose: Diversity, Depth, and Character in Romance✨ so that it's freely available. I hope you'll check it out, share it, give it a think :) https://www.eliotwesteditorial.com/gender-on-purpose.html

I’ve stayed up into the small hours The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen by KJ Charles ( 1/Doomsday). This story was intensely absorbing. I was a little disappointed that the ending was HFN - but I suppose there is no HEA for 2 gay men in 1810 England. 🏳️‍🌈 @romancebooks @bookstodon

I’ve His Human Widow by Michele Mills ( 10/Monsters Love Curvy Girls). I love this alien world & 10 was a fun addition to the Hyrrokin-human love matches. Plus, a bonded pet!!! Hyrrokins are not really monsters like in the genre. They are just Devil-looking aliens. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

? I’ve Shadow Dance by Christine Feehan ( 8/Shadow Riders). The series moves from Chicago to New York. More secrets of the mysterious worldwide shadow riding past & present are revealed. TW for discussion of past child abuses. This Feehan series has fewer horror elements than some others. Recommend to start with book 1. @romancebooks @bookstodon

My favorite series is Vampires in America (& Vampires in Europe) by DB Reynolds. So I’ve re- the 1st , Raphael, which is my least favorite one. It sets up the world well, but doesn’t have an HEA or even a HFN, so I recommend only if immediately followed up by the 2nd , Jabril. The FMC is hired to rescue one of Raphael’s vampires from a kidnapper. @bookstodon @romancebooks

I’ve Scandal by Amanda Quick (2009) in . It’s a standalone historical with a fab FMC, + a MMC who could have passed as a modern Dom if Quick had wanted. Wonderful character development and a solid plot with the MMC maturing under his wife’s influences. I come back to it every 200 titles or so as I re-listen to my catalog. @romancebooks @bookstodon

One reviewer on Goodreads wrote, "It's one of those books that has you actually holding your breath at least once. There were phrases that I had to speak aloud because they were so gorgeous I wanted to feel the weight and shape of them for myself."

I’ve Dominick by Eve Langlais (Growl and Prowl 1). I saw it pushed on IG & chose it on the strength of EL’s name & previous writing, which I generally like. I found this one a bit harder to follow, though I typically love second-chance , veterans, shifters, Canada, and rescues. I can’t pinpoint why I struggled. Maybe I just need a few days off work. , @romancebooks @bookstodon

I as A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert. I read the a few years ago, but this was my 1st listen. FMC is autistic, but only 1 mention that seems to fly right over the MC’s head. Maybe this is common in the UK, but it’s literally the only thing that bugs me about this otherwise perfect book (that he doesn’t seem to connect that word to her quirkiness). @bookstodon @romancebooks

??? I’ve finished Strange Love by Ann Aguirre. This is a Very Alien with a sweet, sexy . It’s not for folks who want almost-human males with humanoid lives & conviences. TW for toxic families, death, & abduction. I on the recommendation of other Mastodon readers & enjoyed it. @romancelandia @romancebooks @bookstodon

Finished the of Never Seduce A Scot by Maya Banks. This is a repeat for me. The heroine is deaf and the age is before sign language. Middle Ages Scotland also means violence, a lack of modern healthcare, and forced marriage. Recommend it. @bookstodon

I Healing Her Heart by Miranda Martin. This is the 1st of her new spinoff series from the Red Planet of Tajss world. It was published in April. I am always interested in second marriage , particularly widows/widowers. This fated mates addresses grief and recovery, and I honestly loved that the human MC was a chaplain (pastoral rather than liturgical). @bookstodon

I the 38 hr of Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy. This 6th in the Jack Ryan series is really important to the overall plot arc of Ryan’s life. I am not going to wax on about the highs or lows of it, but if you read any of this series as a standalone, this is the one to invest in. I have an economics degree & think this might be very difficult to parse in places. @bookstodon

I Hayden’s Pryde by CK Noel (Satchel Pride 1). This M/M lion has a MC who survived a toxic relationship just in time to meet the lion shifter prince. Lots of wealthy privilege and domestic abuse in this story, including a fab Florida beach house. I liked it. @bookstodon

I the alien Lisa’s Love by Miranda Martin. This is the 10th & last book in the Red Planet Jungle series in the Dragons of Tajss world. Never fear, there’s a new spin-off in progress already. Another attempt to infiltrate the cult The Order. Another defection. Another love story. Good bedtime @bookstodon

Instance folks, I'm thinking we should have some kind of helpful message to send to new accounts here. What information would you have found most helpful when you joined?

willaful OP ,
@willaful@romancelandia.club avatar

@pelielios Hmmm. I was thinking more about specifically adjusting to mastodon. An orientation space for the romance genre itself... I don't know if there's just one place. And a lot of it is subjective in any event.

Do you know the @romancelandia group? You can follow them and could direct specific discussion questions there. And you'd probably want to connect with other writers. The hashtag is a good one to follow. Add to narrow it to other romance writers.

I wonder if the whole thing will finally convince artists that modern regime was never meant to protect them.

It was meant to protect the middlemen. The Amazons, the Spotifies, the Sonys, the Disneys. The film studios, the publishing houses.

Now the middlemen figured out they own basically all of art, and that they can just train a computer on that, to replace artists with a piece of software.

And then stop paying artists even the pittance they were being paid so far.

@rysiek If you consider Audiobook Narrators to be artists and audiobooks to be art (I do, honestly, on both counts), then here is a link to my catalogue of high heat audiobooks:
