Wrath Goddess Sing by Maya Deane

Maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist, but I really didn't enjoy the portrayal of the gods in this book. They were both too alien and too human.

Also, I wasn't much of a fan of the writing. This is on top of the way the author wrote Achilles. The weird loss of virginity. The constant see-saw of who compassion and anger. Song of Achilles was much more cohesive & enjoyable, imo.

@bookstodon I started a light and fluffy read (think India Holton’s Wisteria Society level of fluff) and it opens with the FMC being tackled to the ground in a dark room and bodily held down by a strange man, and her reaction is all ooh muscles and sexy feelings (by which you know you’ve met the MMC) and I just could not get past that reaction. Sure, she’s competent and trained as a spy, so her reaction doesn’t HAVE to be fear, but it sure as hell shouldn’t be that.

It’s also immediately followed by the MMC being surprised he’s captured a woman and I’m like, excuse you this is set in the Victorian era, you would’ve had to get past her skirts to tackle her, you have to know you’re on top of a woman just from the volume of clothing under you, you TWAT.

So, anyway. I’m plainly not in the mood for this style of light and fluffy 😂
