In 1974, "The Wiz" debuted in Baltimore, Md. It reimagined "The Wizard Of Oz," centering Black culture and helping "usher in a new era of Black theatrical storytelling," writes NPR's Mitra L. Arthur. A new version is now on Broadway, and will tour next year. Dorothy, The Wiz, Aunt Em, the Scarecrow, Tinman and the Lion visited the Tiny Desk studio to perform seven songs, ending with Dorothy/Nichelle Lewis's performance of "Home." "As Lewis’ fellow cast members enveloped her in hugs after her performance, we were reminded of the same lessons that Dorothy learns in the show: Home isn’t just a physical space, it’s the people who build you up and love you," writes Arthur.
