I Dr Clive Nwonka's Black Arsenal and it is truly remarkable. 60% through, the combination insightful analysis and powerful personal stories and the clear-eyed absence of fawning hagiography is refreshing, challenging and thought provoking. Buy it!, read it

I have a personal challenge
@thestorygraph to read 40 nonfiction books this year and needed to find another 6 to complete it. So I am DELIGHTED that this book has been made available on Kobo on launch day, since it was love of reading that first made me an Fan. Only 5 more to find now. Victoria Concordia Crescit 😀

@ronsboy67 @thestorygraph @bookstodon Two things: how did love of reading make you an fan, and nonfiction go-to authors for me are Erik Larsen and David McCullough

I've been a voracious reader since kindy, and In the early 80s I fell in love with the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The attached passage made me wonder if the author was an fan, so I wrote to his agency and they confirmed he was. Teen me felt the weltschmerz fit and thought , "sounds like my kind of people" 😀

Later, Nick Hornby's excellent Fever Pitch cemented that with his very relatable tale of the changing nature of fandom throughout one's life.

That post was in reply to a query prompted by another one in which I mentioned how excited I am about the new book "Black Arsenal".

One of the main reasons I'm looking forward to reading it is that the author is NOT an fan, but a fan of

I found that news reassuring as I am thinking it means the book is less likely to be a hagiography
