I don't read a lot of physical books anymore. Ebooks and audiobooks are just more convenient for me. But sometimes I'll make an exception, and if anyone deserves one, it's Raymond Chandler. Dude could write... truly a master of wordcraft. The Big Sleep has so much in it to savor and enjoy, and I'm loving the "hardboiled detective" vibe. @bookstodon

I'm juggling (Lady of Letters #1), (The Lady Worthing Mysteries Book 1) (BIPOC MFC), , and ( Last Ditch Mystery #1). Yes, I like my mysteries.

Reminder: I tagged the book I'm reading for easy access if others are reading ssmr book. I did NOT tag the author because that's just rude. It's not like she's going to have a conversation with me on why I disliked part X or wished there was more part Y. Obviously, if you loved the book, tell them. Gives them the warm fuzzies.

I've seen authors across SM who are distressed by this constant tagging. Just don't do it. There is no value or point.

i The Possessed by Elif Batuman now. i thought it was a non fiction about literature, but it turned out to be more of a memoir of an academic, and she got a sense of humour 😁
Elif's luggage was lost on her way to Yasnaya Polyana and she had to attend a Tolstoy conference in loungewear. it would be even funnier if she wore a hoodie instead of a shirt – hoodie is called "tolstovka" in russian, after, you guessed it, Tolstoy 🤓

So, there's a based on The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen coming!

My inner bookworm tells me to stay away from it to spare myself another "book to TV show" disappointment. But, one never knows :)

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.

What a fucking BOOK holy heck.
I’ll need to find a hard copy of it so I can devour it again and again, and inevitably lend it out and lose it forever. But it’ll be WORTH IT.

Up there with Let Me Sing You Gentle Songs for beautiful stories that split and twist like braided rivers before spilling back into the ocean.
Might have a new top five book ay

Read Harder 2023 Task #1: Read a novel about a trans character written by a trans author.
I've read Nevada by Imogen Binnie https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58837536-nevada
"One of the most beloved cult novels of our time and a landmark of trans literature"
I liked the content, I learned a lot, but got a bit tired with the style, lots of monologue going on. 🎲4

Read Harder 2023 Task 4: Read a book that’s been challenged recently in your school district/library OR read one of the most-challenged/banned books of the year by a queer and/or BIPOC author

It's a long time since any books have been banned in Norway, so I went with one from USA: The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32075671-the-hate-u-give

I loved this book, even though it was heartbreaking, because it was so real and important.

Read Harder 2023 Task 8: Read a graphic novel/comic/manga if you haven’t before; or read one that is a different genre than you normally read.

I haven't read any manga before, so I chose My Brother's Husband by Gengoroh Tagame https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32337897-my-brother-s-husband-volume-1

This was just beautiful! 🎲6 "an unprecedented and heartbreaking look at the state of a largely still-closeted Japanese gay culture"

Read Harder 2023 Task 22: Read any book from the Ignyte awards shortlist/longlist/winner list.

Black Sun, Rebecca Roanhorse won the Best Adult Novel in 2021. "An epic adventure inspired by the civilizations of the Pre-Columbian Americas and woven into a tale of celestial prophecies, political intrigue and forbidden magic."

Fascinating worldbuilding, I really loved it! I read the next book right away.
