Had two PhD proposal defenses today and both of my supervisees passed and got very encouraging comments. Very proud of my two students working on different aspects of #ecocriticism, #ecoGothic and #animalstudies with me.
I'm doing better at Karrom and am officially on the "women's doubles team" for my Centre at the Faculty Games gulp. On the one hand it's distracting me from other academic work. On the other hand, I'm having so much fun!!
It's such a joy (and relief) to finally see my debut novel being talked up a bit more. I waited for this for MONTHS and had given up all hope.
New blue and sprinkle colored donut squishmallow on green patterned cooling blanket, both of which were surprise gifts from my partner today (with cooling body pillow in the background that he bought me a couple weeks ago also a surprise gift)

I managed to do some of the housework I planned to do and finished my cooking before 6pm. I'll do the laundry after I submit the article this week though. Sometimes you have to make these choices.
Lemon Sherbet ice cream (Waitrose). So good.
Today's super-chill music (to help me calm TF down): Dr. Dog, Helado Negro, Cigarettes After Sex, Khruangbin.
The fact that I am earwormed by Wynton Marsalis's interpretation of Crepuscle with Nellie.
Caught up on my word count quota for the article that's due next Monday which makes up for yesterday's major chronic pain day.
Had a brief chat earlier that reassured me that one of my research grant plans for a grant application cycle starting soon was still okay (I panicked about this last week due to some wrong info).
I rejoined Codex Writer's Group and didn't realise how much I'd missed about being a Codexian
I can't get over the offer to contribute to a potential special issue at one of my top 5 bucket list journals. I feel a bit weird saying this because I know it might all just fall flat; I've been disappointed before. But I'm hoping for the best. It was a good reminder of why I'm in academia, so I will be content with that.
Today's music: some classical (Debussy) but mostly I woke up with St. Vincent in my head so I listened to her 2015 album on the commute and later while working. Then segued into Father John Misty. Good times.
Visited new-to-me pokestops and a good gym battle after my afternoon trip to the pharmacy!
Started prep on the #hauntology paper I swore I wasn't going to present on Tuesday and am now quite academically pleased with myself.
It didn't take me too long to get home from work today.
A clean home is always nice.
It's a rather desperate week in terms of getting stuff done + academic deadlines as always, but getting stuff done always give me an inner glow of satisfaction. That whole eudaimonia + arete cocktail thingo.
Finally managed to make my Salmon Kedgeree -- and had it both for breakfast and for dinner. Delish!
Hearing back from two of the speakers I invited for two separate events, which brings me much closer to finalising the programme nitty-gritty for both webinars.
Clearing some more things off the to-do list. Although the list seems to go on for miles. And miles.
