Albert works on Wayland now.

markstos OP ,

Where can I find docs about Albert’s support for dmenu features? I didn’t find any mention on the Albert website.

I saw that Albert supports plugins and extensions but couldn’t find a list of the plugins and extensions were.

Isn’t wofi dead? I still use it but last I heard it is no longer in active development.

markstos OP ,

Wofi was updated by the author 13 hours ago:

hg.sr.ht/~scoopta/wofi

The banner says “This project is not being actively maintained. It does still receive some updates from time to time but nothing frequent.”

It’s fine for a project to reach “maturity” and quit getting updated much, but the Wofi docs, interface and features still seem like they could use some polish.

It’s open source, so anyone else is always welcome to use the current state as a base to build on if they prefer to.

Aside from Wofi’s support for Pango/HTML/CSS, I don’t see a reason to use it over Fuzzel, though.

_____ ,

I think wofi looks great and it works for me. I use it with pywal’s wallpaper theme generated css. I haven’t seen many alternatives having this level of visual configuration.

I’ll look into fuzzel but I remember last time I looked I was let down by the visuals of most of these alternatives. If it doesn’t look good I’d rather use the sway built in drun thing.

markstos OP ,

It’s possible that wofi’s HTML and CSS support allow for some visual effects the others don’t.

What ia rofi? Are there more alternatives?

markstos OP ,

Fuzzel and Rofi are picker/launcher utilities.

More alternatives are compared here: mark.stosberg.com/fuzzel-a-great-dmenu-and-rofi-a…

Fuzzel is a rofi alternative for Wayland.

This is just a Monthy Python sketch, right?

Nice, I implemented the script to rename the workspace in Sway on my PC! I suggest to also write the option –width 50 to fuzzel, so the text field is large enough to see what you are writing.

Love fuzzel! Glad to see some much anticipated features!

Been using this with Sway since the start of the year, and it’s been wonderful.

The thing I miss from rofi is the ssh/mosh support with history. I haven’t been able to replicate that on any of the other alternatives.

markstos OP ,

I initially missed SSH support from Rofi, but just changed my workflow to open a terminal and then use Fish with the history autocomplete history to quickly select a host to SSH to.

If anyone prefers the dmenu look and feel, there’s also bemenu

muhyb ,

and there is also wofi for rofi.

Chewy7324 , (edited )

And there’s lbonn’s fork of rofi with native wayland support. It opens faster than wofi.

Edit: github.com/lbonn/rofi

It’s in some repos available as rofi-wayland.

muhyb ,

Didn’t know about that. Nice one.

theshatterstone54 ,

Yes, and it’s pretty good, if not as flexible as rofi.

markstos OP ,

And dmenu-wayland.
