I don’t mind YouTube shorts usually, although my TikTok feed is far better. But last week, my YouTube app started opening to the shorts tab. Infuriating. I’ll watch a short if it piques my interest, but that’s not what I’m going to YouTube for.
My biggest issue is so many of the people I sub that have shorts, the shorts are their normal videos but only a small clip of it. I dont want that, Im already watching the videos!
Agreed. Some of the YouTubers I watch have said that YouTube is forcing them to make shorts because their videos won’t be shown to people if they don’t. A couple are even doing a bit of malicious compliance and taking the piss out of YouTube Shorts because they hate it as much as we do.
If we wanted short clips, we’d be on TikTok damnit!
Secure from who? The law? Not likely. Some dude in his basement in Russia who really wants to know where I’m meeting my friends after work or what time my dentist appointment is? Big deal.
Honestly, who is actually stupid enough to still be sending sensitive personal information by text? It doesn’t matter what app you use to send it; once it’s sent, it’s inherently unsecure because now someone else has it in their posession with nothing but their personal integrity protecting it.
Signal messages are (verifiably) end to end encrypted. That means no one other than the sender and receiver can read their contents. You don’t have to rely on Signal’s integrity, since Signal is (verifiably) unable to read the messages’ contents.
Imagine saying e2ee messaging apps are spyware while SMS sending plaintext. No one told you to use Facebook messenger or even WhatsApp, there are privacy friendly options like signal or matrix based apps (Element for example).
I use messaging apps exclusively with my Android using friends and family. Can't get my Apple using friends and family to use them. iMessage or the highway. Can't take away the one wee thing that feeds their ego. Fuck everybody else right!? Maddening.
I’d almost take a repost of an actual meme over another comic strip, twitter screenshot, or plain old picture… This community is already dumpster fire.
Next year is going to be worse. And the year after that even more so. And it will continue like that for decades, probably centuries.
Even if I could tolerate dumbasses who don’t think CO2 emissions (and destruction of multiple natural CO2 sinks) are the driver of all this, it’s still infuriating that they don’t seem even concerned that the world is getting hotter and more deadly and are focused on some nonsense topics that no one in their right mind would give that much of a shit about.
It’s not just CO2, though. For example, SF6 is regulated under the Kyoto agreement and a much more potent greenhouse gas. SF6 is used extensively in high voltage electrical switchgear, simply to keep the size down by having busbars closer together. There’s so much of it out there that the small fraction that leaks is very significant. SF6 takes ~20 years to get from the ground and up into the upper atmosphere. Its use has been and continues to grow exponentially across the globe.
Literal community description: “All the content!” I’m pretty sure memes about technology count as content about technology. I see no reason for them to be banned.
