If there is a silver lining it’s that this was brought to light by Legislative Audit Council at the request of the general assembly. They could have looked the other way or buried the report. It’s not much but it’s better than nothing I suppose.
Ultimately it comes down to the citizens of South Carolina and Americans in general. If we care then it’s much more likely that something will happen. The article mentions that there has already been a change in leadership. Maybe they’re already in the process of changing their culture.

They’re not doing it to censor or discourage use. They’re doing it because they don’t want the software running on their network alongside their network resources.
