The Church of Scientology has a museum in Hollywood, CA called Psychiatry: An Industry of Death. They don’t admit it’s affiliated with the church- more on that later- it claims it’s run by the “Citizens’ Commission on Human Rights,” which is one of their lobbying groups.
Right next to it is a restaurant called The Cat and Fiddle, which happened to be where an atheist social group I was a part of when I lived there met up once a month. So one day, we decide to go over. They make you give your name and address to go in, so we gave very obvious fake ones. We were followed by what were very clearly handlers pretending to be other museum-goers who just happened to be hanging out in the lobby when we came in and gave us the sort of pious smiles you often see from religious people when they’re intentionally trying to do something shitty to you.
Once you are let in, they make you watch an incredibly boring movie which lasted about half an hour. It was so boring, I remember nothing about it except “psychiatry bad.” The link I give above shows pictures of the very silly exhibits. Now on the subject of ECT, they literally blame the Holocaust on ECT. Like Germany was giving people ECT and that turned them into Nazis and that’s how the Holocaust happened.
And then you get to the end with a bunch of plaques with their “advisors” and the names are names like John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Isaac Hayes… all the celebrities who are openly Scientologists. They didn’t really hide their affiliation very well.
It was very amusing at the time, and they didn’t charge us any money so we didn’t feel like we were contributing to church bullshit, but it does feel a lot less amusing now.
Not sure what anyone expected. This is just how conservatives are. These people have no morals or beliefs other than doing whatever is best for them at the current moment in time and they won’t even bother to disguise or hide it.

Which is funny, because while it should be non-gendered, the Academy Awards still has separate categories for “Best (Supporting) Actor” and “Best (Supporting) Actress”. And unlike other competitions, the skills required and level of success is not objectively different between the sexes, so the differing categories exist as a relic from America’s more misogynist past.
I imagine it could be more than a relic of the misogynistic past. It could also be in recognition of the misogynistic present, where women may not have all the same opportunities available to them as men in certain industries.
Yeah, everyone is saying this is him saying he’s going to bail, and yeah I agree but I also read more into it. I saw it as a signal to his base that they have “a plan” to retreat and re-strategize or whatever. Why would he just give up and live quietly in Venezuela? If this dude loses, he will make Kamala’s life a living hell.
And I bet there are Americans willing to follow him there (good riddance tbh).
I’m sure that it is but I don’t know how a County Court goes about enforcing that against a Federal facility. That’s why it so rare to see this happen, the system only works if everyone plays along. I dunno.
It was in the midst of claiming Venezuela dumped all of its criminals in the US. In Trump’s view Venezuela is safer than the US since America let all the Venezuelan criminals in through that open border.
Yeah, but imagine if it were the 60s and that claim was being made about the USSR, that it’s safer than the US because all the criminals were sent to America, so he’s going to go to the USSR if he loses.
The Republicans are still stuck in “we hate commies” mode. So this is a very weird thing for Trump to say.
Venezuela is an authoritarian state (for the moment).
Venezuela is thus perfect for Trump.
It all makes more sense when you realize these people don’t know what ‘communism’ or ‘socialism’ are. It’s just an alternative word for ‘bad’ to them. I once heard a Republican blame companies raising gas prices at the pump on ‘socialism’.
